No, they are brought to you by your local police state. Zero tolerance allows you treat your own citizens as criminals and suspected criminals for the crime of being human.
I see zero tolerance policies more often in schools than anywhere else. Most schools have a zero tolerance policy for one thing or another be it drugs, where kids cant bring aspirin or Tylenol from home or weapons were kids are not allowed to carry a fork or butter knife with them to eat their lunch. These policies are usually enacted by a school board instead of any real government agency. Most of the policies are usually designed to try and make sure that all kids are treated equally (equally bad maybe) so that some kids don't get preferential treatment.
The concept is the same even in schools, and besides public (government) schools are just an extension of government officials. Behind every zero tolerance policy you will find a collection of bureaucrats celebrating the fact that they won't actually have to use any common sense to noodle out a problem when the need arises. Zero tolerance policies are the essence of bureaucratic thought, and hence government.
I understand what your saying about school boards being a part of government. They are elected so yes they are part of the government, but they are not politicians. They would certainly not be called big time politicians and in some cases they are just concerned parents who get carried away with themselves. I have been to a couple of school board meetings and it is unbelievable the lengths they will go to to avoid confrontation. It does to some degree, make their school board job easier if they can just treat every situation the same and not have to be called upon to make individual decisions. Im just saying that I think its more small government than it is big government where this type of rule is usually made.
