From having done decades of RenFaires, this one is easy. Forks are just now being invented (1500s), and spoons are nice but not necessary--which is why EVERYone has a belt knife.
Good point, you could also take a spoon and sharpen it down to a point and create a sporknif. A knife is good for a lot of things, but you can't eat soup out of a coconut with it.
Don't need anything to drink milk out of a coconut. Use it as a bowl and drink away. Or carve yourself a spoon real quick and spoon it up. although that strikes me as the same thing as drinking tea with a spoon.

Yesh!
Besides, with a knife you can carve a spoon--or a bowl or a trencher, for that matter.

May I ask the folks who answered "can opener" what their reasoning was? Are there a lot of cans on the island?
Well, it does say you are on a ship, it should have a galley with a lot of can goods??
Yes, lots of can goods will likely wash up on shore.
I have opened cans with a knife, but never a spoon or fork. Oops, just saw your next response down.
Kitchen utensil took too many words so I had to improvise.
Is a can opener a dining utensil? I agree that knife is the best answer.
