That was the dumbest thing they ever started. There are so many gays and lesbians in the military, it would be a total shock if they were to all come out at the same time. I'm not a big fan of homosexuality but all bans on it should be dropped.
For once, you and I agree on something. Don't ask, don't tell is extremely lame. It's ridiculous that someone can't talk to their co-workers about having dinner with their loved ones.
Of course there are some problems attached to thinking in boxes like this. It is very well possible to be a bit of both, or to be in denial about your orientation. But still often people do think in boxes, about others and about themselves as well. And often I can tell, but almost as often my gaydar lets me down and I cannot or I am mistaken.
To give an interesting example, I know this guy who is extremely effeminate, (he walks with a little handbag, wears a necklace the rim of his shirt is finished with some kind of lace....Yep!) I met him at a gay party and, well assumed if anyone had to be gay there it must be him. But I was mistaken. When I got to know him better he told me that he actually was straight. But the fact that he is so "girly", non-macho and "odd" makes that he is not really well accepted at straight parties.

Like Rock Hudson? Roy Cohn?
You can't tell by looking whether some one is Christian, either. Only their actions tell.
Oh, and 'don't ask, don't tell' wouldn't have worked even as poorly as it has if that were true.

I have met some extremely effeminate men who were completely straight.
