I known several people that have been there recently and they loved it.
I saw all of it I wanted in 1969.
Roger that! 1964 when it wasn't even a "war."
Don't think I could stomach it. Not just the environmental destruction, which is unbelievable, but the human cost. Deformities both physical and mental are now affecting a third generation. Estimates range from 50,000 to 500,000 children malformed and retarded by dioxin poisoning. Some families have FIVE children with flippers instead of limbs. Makes thalidomide look like a minor footnote. Don't think I could stand seeing that, and knowing that my country did it.
Even if you are psycho enough to think that the Viet Namese of the war 'deserved' what they got, how can anyone who calls him or herself human say those unborn *grandchildren* deserve it?
Of course the USA is responsible for all the suffering in South Vietnam. The North Vietnamese, Chinese, Russians and VC were all innocent bystanders.
That was the last place I wanted to go in 66 and I am not about to pay for the memories again now, no way!!
About as much as I'd like to travel to Belize, Nigeria, Lithuania, or Kyrgtzstan, ...just to name a few places I probably won't visit on my next world tour.
