I don't know and I don't want to think about it.

I sometimes think it is wrong to kill an animal for food. Not because it might have a soul (it doesn't), but because I know that I could live quite well (maybe even better) without killing animals. At other times I just crave for a juicy steak.

Right, because religious people think human beings have souls, and who's ever heard of a religious person killing a human being?

Religious people are not necessary logical in their reasoning...

I can only answer that there are certain animals that I think are having some sort of self conscience (like monkeys and whales) that I would never eat them. If I had the same idea about a cow or a chicken I would not eat those eather.

there are studies which prove that cow, chicken, lambs, pork, goat, fish have self conscience... they also have 'best friends' in their groups and may suffer from psychological diseases.

By the way, i'm an atheist and a vegetarian because of the reasons mentioned above.

You are so correct, julischwarz. Thank you for pointing that out. I am a vegetarian and an atheist for additional reasons as well.

This very important knowledge about animals should be more often discussed, starting at schools.

Pigs are among the most intelligent animals though.

I have thought about giving up eating pork.
