I'm not sure what source of income other than employment is referring to. Other than charity or government handouts, what other type of non-employment income is there?
Those all seem to be extensions of employment income (or perhaps charity or govermenment assistance). You have to have money to get money in any of those ways. And the best way to get money in the first place is to have a job.

Dividends, interest, rental income, profits from business ventures are examples of other sources of income other then paid employment.
