THEIR name. No to both questions.

As a former registered Republican who USED to vote along the party line on a regular basis, here's what, IMHO, the future holds for the Republicans:

1.)If the Republican party returns to its true values of fiscal responsibility within the next four years, then they have a chance to save themselves as the "Republican Party."

2.) If the Republican Party stands up to the Christian Right that has inserted itself into the party, they still stand a chance to once again be the "Republican Party". They've forgotten that they were the party of SMALL government that believed government should stay out of people's daily lives. The Christian right is attempting to use the Republican party's power to insert their personal "Christian morality" into people's daily lives instead of allowing Americans to make decisions about their own lives. (Case in point - 3 states - SC, NC, GA - have banned oral sex and 5 states - LA, GA, AL, MS, TX - have banned sex toys). Butting into people's lives is one of the things Democrats have always been famous for, and something I never liked about the Democrats. But, either way you go these days, both parties want to stick their nose into everybody else's business even when it has no bearing on THEIR lives. Very un-American.

3.) If the Republicans actively work to close the election loop-holes they exploited in 2000 and 2004 to get George Bush into office, then they have a chance to become the Grand Old Party again. People were so enraged at the election fraud here in Ohio during the 2004 election, they sent Democrats into virtually every elected office in 2006. They expected the Democrats to do something about it. They didn't. I have a feeling the Democrats are looking forward to exploiting those same loop-holes to keep themselves in power. Bad news.

IF the Republican Party does those three things, then they have a CHANCE to return to their former glory years. If they don't - then they just might go the way of the Whigs and the Federalists.
