If you mean survive the 4 years and not do anything too dreadful, then probably yes.
If you mean save the world, then probably no.
If you mean somewhere inbetween, the jury is out. Like most politicians, he will please some folks, and upset others. Hopefully the net will be for the good of ordinary folks, not the "elite".
I think there are a of of people around the world who hope that he will. I think also he has enormous, broad based support and good will on his side. People want him to succeed - the previous president never attracted that sort of support and in fact I think he alienated what little latent support he may have had.
Saying "at least he's better than Bush" doesn't go very far. That only gets him up to about 40th place. Besides, McCain likely would've been better than Bush. Barr likely would've been better than Bush. Bush didn't set the standard very high.
I'd also bet that most people in the world in 2001 were hoping Bush would succeed. That didn't particularly help.
