Same reply as [http://www.ask500people.com/questions/you-like-car]
Very fuel efficient and cheap, and they don't have to cater to unions in Detroit.
So you are saying that the reason our cars are not fuel efficient and costly is because the Billionaire CEO's are catering to the unions---bull shit!!!
I beg your pardon?
I never promised you a rose garden.
Who's pardon is she begging?
Have you EVER noticed sometimes people think they are replying to the person directly above them, but of course we all know that is only possible if you click "reply" instead of "add caomment."
Is it REALLY possible some people don't get it? <@v@>
I was adding a comment not replying to you or cooljuno, I fully understood both of your comments, I grasp how the system here works.
If you want to imply I am stupid, do it by pressing that reply under my comment, not someone else's.
LOL--go tiger--I mean tigress!
Do you have some kind of complex?
Sakula didn't answer you so I figured Sakula thought you were talking to me since your comment was right below mine. Sakula probably wondered why you were begging her pardon since begging the pardon of someone who asks, "Why car made in China?" does not seem like the kind of question for which pardons might be expected. On the other hand, a pro-union person might not understand how "cater to unions in Detroit" is relevant to the poll, and for that comment it might be considered more appropriate to some to beg for a pardon.
Of course, you are from England and I am not so I cede to the person most likely to have a superior knowledge of English. Obviously you well understood what you meant and I did not understand, so I reckon I am at fault here.
But how you would think I might have been trying to imply you are stupid is the big mystery. How you can even think such a thing seems unfathomable. I did not use the word "stupid," "dumb," "moronic," "imbecilic," or even say something about "half a brain," once. And that is why I began this comment with, "Do you have a complex?"
Sign me "Puzzled in the USA" :-)
Ya know what, I did start to type exactly how I came to that conclusion and what "begging pardon" means in standard British English usage but I figure that 1. I can't really be arsed having this discussion with you and 2. I reckon you know already.
Signed me "Got a terrible complex in the UK" =0)
PS Incidentally:
Imply - To express in a suggestive manner rather than as a direct statement; To have as a necessary consequence; To suggest a logical inference.
Just google define: imply.
Well, 'didn't have to look up too many of those words, only "arsed." That was a new one. Boy, my vocabulary is growing in leaps and bounds!!! :)
No, wait, since you didn't want to be "arsed" explaining what you meant by "beg your pardon," I had to look that one up too. It's a shame you wouldn't explain because OneLook sure had a poor"arse" excuse of a definition that didn't seem to fit the way you used it at all. :-(
http://www.onelook.com (all dictionaries)
Did you look up "smartarse" too??
In common British English usage, when one does not hear and/or understand what a person has said it is considered polite to say "I beg your pardon" rather than "What?". I suppose the usage comes from the idea of apologising to the speaker for not having heard them or understood.
But I shouldn't use it should I...it doesn't say it's acceptable anywhere on the internet. Sorry Grandma and all my teachers, you were wrong.
Smartarse, huh?
Oh, I get it! Haha!
Now, see the virtue of diplomacy? You could have called me a shithead and I could have returned the compliment, and then where would we be?
Smartarse, huh? Well, I can live with that. I bet you can guess it wasn't the first time someone attempted to explain my raison d'ĂȘtre in exactly this fashion, ...to be a smartarse! LOL. :)
I'll manage wif a shrubbery if you have one.
Oh dear, please don't start saying "Ni" at me ...
<pauses to think>
...
err will this do?

That's exactly how all shrubberies should look!
You know, I seem to like you more each day :)
So Chinese people can drive around and not get wet like the ones on bicycles do?
