St. Peter isn't really a "bouncer" up there... read Revelation and you will see it's Michael the Archangel, AKA the Angel of War.....

Interesting. What is Pete's job then. He certainly gets plenty of mentions in popular culture with the gates.

It's from Matthew 16:19 where (depending on your interpretation) he's told by Jesus that he will be given the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

If someone told be they had been given the keys to a building, I would expect that to mean they now could come and go as they pleased, not that they were expected to vet anyone trying to enter.
