Which philospher do you agree with most? Ask a Question

my resonal favourite would have been Feuerbah, but given those thre... hm.. well, there should be some timt left till this question runs :)

PS: isn't he spelled Rousseau?

yes, regarding spelling.

and considering these are all in the same basic tradition, i.e. their work is generally linear, perhaps it would have been more interesting to use opposing philosophers, and note key assumptions of each one. so that those who are not aware of their work could answer knowledgeably.

so well, yes in all points :) But this is the way, one learns in life. By mistake.

I would contend Rousseau and Locke are rather opposed. Locke and Hobbes are in the same vein though...

i understand that contention, and on various points they do disagree. however, they also agree on points. so what we are left with, in attempting to answer this question, is to decipher which points of their philosophy we agree with and which ones we disagree with.

this is all well and good for someone well-versed in the intricacies of each man, but for those who are not, the question becomes less meaningful.

my point in my original comment was to pick philosophers that were opposed (to the point of obviousness) or to give an example of a particular point made by each philosopher. my reason being to make the question more accessible, not to start a side discussion.

I am aghast at just how many are ignorant of such great thinkers.

I know! This is disturbing.... what are children learning in school these days?

Its a good thing I didnt ask: Hegel, Kant or Mills.

I count myself among the ignorant on this one, unfortunately. I've never been able to relate to abstract philosophy to be honest. It's never felt relevant to how I live my life.

There's so much to learn and do... :)

You should understand that everyone does not have a college ed and even if they do they may not have majored in philosophy. I gentleman or a lady can have a pleasant conversation with a person of any level educational level without hurting the others feelings. There is no need to be insulting to feel superior.

Hi - I apologize for sounding snobbish. I agree that not everyone has such oppurtunities and I understand that... Im more dissapointed with the state of our educational systems than anything else. I am all for a pleasant conversation. But, I did not major in philosphy... and you dont have to in order to have a basic understanding about what these guys were about. Point well taken though.

And as for spelling 'Rousseau' as 'Russo', that's also inexcusable!

Yes I apologize! You are right. I should go hang myself. lol... seriously though, I voted earlier to be allowed to fix my spelling mistakes

Agreed, we ought to be able to fix spelling mistakes :-)

I find your attitude towards others distasteful. Please try to be nice.
