There are a whole lot of "it depends" running amok in my brain as I think if this one. Jealousy and Pride could be big motivators. I'll work my butt off if I can earn enough to move to this swanky neighborhood and make you jealous. Money and the struggle for it help me become more efficient. Fear of death motivates me to keep my job so I get the health benefits to stay healthy and keep on living. Love? Well if I'm in love I'll want to work harder to make more money to show you how much I love you.

On the other hand, and the reason I chose it, love can be the biggest drain on efficiency because if I'm only thinking of you I'm probably not thinking very hard about my work.
