I have been caring for my aging parents at home. I moved cross country to do so. My father died last year after a short illness, but I still have mom. My goal is to keep her independent for as long as possible, as that is what she wants. I figure she took care of me, now I can do the same.
Your caring philosophy is commendable. I'm afraid a lot of people don't seem to think even remotely like yourself nowadays. Old age is increasingly being scorned at. If we could only stop and realise that soon enough we'll be there ourselves...
Your mom did a good job to now have someone with your compassion.
Looking at the votes right now, it doesn't look like the rest of us will be so lucky.
I think I would like my aging parents to make that decision. They might not want to live at my house. It would also depend on whether or not they required medical attention that I could not properly supply in my home. I would try my best to respect their wishes and try and do whatever they want, provided I can afford to do it and it is practical at when the time comes.
At home, becuase i know how she fears homes like that SO much - even though it might be able to care for her better than i can.
Does this mean that smothering them isn't an option?
Arsenic somehow springs to mind...I like your wicked sense of humour...
