All the periods were "the best" for different reasons. Having had more than one "near miss" I consider myself lucky just to be here. I could have drowned. I could have died from a serious case of bacterial sepsis. I could have been run over by a car. I could have died from a drug overdose. I could have died from a bump on the head instead of just passing out and regaining consciousness in a hospital the following afternoon. I've been pretty lucky and I'm lucky to still be here, and feel especially lucky when I read the obits once every few weeks and note a dozen or more people younger than I am passed away long before anyone would have expected.
I have a habit of taking my age and doubling it and as long as I'm still less than half the age of the oldest human being who ever lived (in modern times) I consider the possibility I still have a long way to go. And I have 7 years to go before I'm even halfway there! :)
