Run out of earth and you run out of air, water and fire. Run out of water and you run out of earth and life. Run out of air and you lose fire, water and earth. Run out of fire and you'll freeze in most of the world. Without fire some might be able to survive, but any of the others go missing and it's over. All are needed for human existence.
Yes, you correctly stated above that without fire some might be able to survive (in fact many, and for centuries) but then you erroneously concluded, "All are needed for human existence." But that is simply not the case. Fire is not needed for human existence. ;o)

I disagree with the run out of earth vs. air thing. if you run out of earth you will still have air: air is an element that will never disappear. if there is no oxygen then it is still air; just not breathable. I think that air is the best element.
yes but what is life with air but not the other elements i believe water is powerful not as powerful as other elements but powerful water can wash away earth, put out fires, and even cut through metal. But water can only accomplish this unless it is drawn by something
Pluto's atmosphere consists of a thin envelope of nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide gases, which are derived from the ices of these substances on its surface. When considering the four "essential elements" of life, I'm quite sure that "air" refers to breathable air, especially in the context of what is needed for human existence.

The reason they are the "Main Four" is because we need each to exist. None is more important than the other since to remove any would mean the loss of all.
Actually, I'd say you were talking in a very Euro-centric way. There are a LOT of places fire is not needed to exist and to remove it would not mean the loss of air, earth or water.
People survived for thousands of years without shaping metal, cooking food, running internal combustion engines, etc. Her contention was that we need fire to "exist," and that removing fire would mean the loss of air, earth and water. That is simply not true. Of course the whole "four elements" thing isn't true anyway, since they aren't even elements, but that's another argument. ;o)

plawler.. while you are correct in defining the sun as a great ball of energy, you must consider that this ball of "energy" is mostly composed of vast amounts of heat. We use fire mostly as a source of heat, as we depend on the sun for minor to utterly dependent forms of energy.
Fire is more powerful than you can possibly imagine, while Earth and Water are vastly important, they are both not as dangerous or destructive as the forces of Air(Wind) and Fire(Heat) You are right in assuming that Wind is very powerful and without it we could not exsist, but understand that Fire is not a man-made convenience. I do not define Fire as a flame, but rather as an emodiment of heat and power. Air or, as some like to think of it, Matter, is essential for everything. But Heat of "Fire" is abundant in the universe in the form of Stars; great balls of plasma and energy. Without these, everything else would seem pointless. For example, Water has no point without heat, as no catalyst is available for it to use Earth (Biologicaly important matter) to make simple proteins. Think about it.
Air. I think that air (being the element of freedom) is most powerul. as Mandanator said: air can move fire, water, and earth. WIthout oxygen (air) you would not have fire. without air you would have no h2o it would be just H. earth is the oppisite of air but air forms mountains and erodes and weathers many earth formations. therefore, air is most powerful.

I say water because it is the most versitile. no living thing can be without water or air. But water is the one element that has many extremes weather in liquid form as a tsunami or in solid form as hail. Second would be air because when the air starts to attack you there isn't much you can do.
Technically speaking, this conversation has degraded into one of immense cretinous babble.
What you've just said, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent responses were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone is now dumber for having read this.
The question was not "What is the most important or vital element?" It was "What is the most powerful?" Earth shakes, wind blows, fire burns, water rages. They all are capable of exerting great force and destruction: Earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis, hurricanes, volcanic eruption, etc.
Air has the ability to move fire, water, and earth.
Extinguish fire and erode earth.
And is our main life source.
Run out of air, run out of life.
Run out of earth and you run out of air, water and fire. Run out of water and you run out of earth and life. Run out of air and you lose fire, water and earth. Fire is not needed for human existence. I know you might freeze in Canada, but there's a lot more to the world than Canada. ;o)
As stated above.

Francium!
You know... I'm looking at the periodic table of elements and I don't see any of these. ;o)
One can not survive with out the others.
Really? So Pluto is not really earth. Even though it has no air, fire or water... seems to me Earth can survive just fine without the other three.
I hate to break it to you, but Pluto really isn't earth. Earth is the third planet from the sun where we live.
Earth as an "element" is the stuff that planet Earth is made of... you know, like rock. Pluto is also made of, you know... rock.
pluto has air; not breathable air but air.

We don't exactly need fire to exist. At least not where I live. ;o)
You are right..in some areas I am sure fire is not needed. I was talking overall. =)
Actually, I'd say you were talking in a very Euro-centric way. There are a LOT of places fire is not needed to exist and to remove it would not mean the loss of air, earth or water.
But it's used to shape metal, cook food, run internal combustion engines, etc. So it *is* needed everywhere. Fire isn't only for warmth (or heat).

But wait. Isn't the sun a big ball of fire?
Not precisely, no. A big ball of energy would be more accurate. ;o)
Rhubidium is the most powerful element.
