Inappropriate choices for answers. None of the above seem even slightly applicable to me.

I agree. I do not think he will be all sunshine and roses and happiness but I also don't think that he will completely screw things up.

True. He's an America who was born in Hawaii.

If you're born in Hawaii, you're technically Hawaiian. Not Hawaiian ethnicity, but Hawaiian "nationality" if you know what I mean. Sheesh!

No, that's incorrect. There is no Hawaiian "nationality." You are only Hawaiian if you are Hawaiian ethnically.

I meant someone from Hawaii. Honestly, it is indeed possible to simply take things at face value. The question was not intended to be serious. I am a Michiganian because I was born in Michigan. Am I ethnically of one of the ethnic groups traditionally from Michigan? No. But I am from Michigan, and my point was that he is Hawaiian in the sense of being born in/from Hawaii.

Except that the word "Hawaiian" is not appropriate in that context. Any more than it would be appropriate to call a white person from Arabia and Arab, or a white person from India an Indian.

Someone from Alaska is "Alaskan". Someone from California is "Californian". Someone from Iowa is "Iowan". It is entirely appropriate because I did not mean it in the context of "a person who is ethnically Hawaiian", as I explained.

The public has been kept ignorant about HI's current situation for too long. Yes, there IS a Hawaiian nationality. Always have been more so since 1840. Can you prove to me how the US has signed a treaty of cession? We already know there wasn't a war.

I understand what you mean vis a vis the Kingdom of Hawaii, but what I was trying to explain is that being in Hawaii... even being born in Hawaii does not make one a "Hawaiian."

I'm from Michigan. I am a "Michigander" (Michiganian if you like, but then I throw you off the Mackinac Bridge). Read my other comment; I meant it in the context of being *from or born in* Hawaii. And, actually, to follow on from your other comment, I would certainly call a white person from India an Indian. They are Indian by nationality, if not by ethnicity.

Also, I fail to understand why everyone makes such a big deal out of such an incredibly minor issue. It was meant jokingly; can we please take five minutes to carefully consider the meaning of the word "hu-mor" before carrying on?

Oh, no one has any sense of humor... ^_^

Yeah...i do. I was born in Italy to parents in the Air Force. I am American. I am not Italian because I was born in Italy. I just have duel citizenship because of my birth certificate. BUT???? Has there been a question about Obama's birth certifate?

A question raised by charlatans and answered by the Hawaii State Department of Health. His birth certificate is genuine.

Just wondering where I said anything about a question about his birth certificate... if it's in reference to the Hawaii bit, Hawaii is a part of the US. So I certainly wasn't implying he's not an American citizen.

ha ha so far 44% say he will make the country adored. they cant be serious!?
