I'm going to assume you mean involuntary or mandated population control, much like that which exists in China.
Yes, I'm referring to involuntary population control.
If every couple is allowed only one child, in 40 years the population (currently 6.7 bn) will half. In 80 years, half again. So by 2087 we could have 1.67bn which is far more sustainable. Clearly China is cheating as their one child per family structure appears to be failing. Religions seem to be a key area for population growth in the west, eg cathilics.
the problem is, that from an economical point of view this woud be a disaster. in western europe we already have big problems to mantain old people, because there are not enough young to work.
