All the billions of dollars spend on security every day and in order to disrupt air traffic you just walk in through the wrong gate. Yet the people testing the airport security get bombs in their carry on luggage onto planes more often then not.
Sure, its easy to say that they are ineffective and point out all their failures but as crappy, slow, unprofessional, and unfriendly as they are....there are relatively few hijackings these days. There has to be a reason for that.

Even using your Wikipedia list I did not notice any US hijackings since Sep. 11, 2001. This at a time where terrorism world wise is increasingly targeted toward American interests and after terrorist used a hijacking to change the world. Considering the number of flights made and the number of people flying, I wonder how they do as good a job as they have.
When you consider the number of worldwide flights made per day verses the number of flights made per day in the 1980's then yes I do think the number of hijackings has decreased.
