What exactly is the evidence to support "the yellow one"? If either one of the blue, red, or green options are true...yellow becomes false!

So you are a believer in Descartes then. Good for you. He was talking to one of the popular groups that believed that everything is spirit and all we see is an illusion.

Can I prove that everything is or is not spirit?... No. I can't. But I'm with Descartes. Can I prove that there is or is not a God?... No. I can't. But I'm with Jesus on this one.

Logical reasoning... Yes

Evidence... Yes

Scientific proof... No

Same as Descartes. That was MY point.

I thought that you found Descartes creditable since you cited him. My mistake. I shouldn't have assumed that you did.

Sure scientists talk about proof. A hypothesis is either proved or not proved. It's part of the scientific method.

But this whole misunderstanding was started by your statement, "...our default assumption should be not to make any assumption - i.e. not to assume anything exists after death." To assume nothing exists IS an assumption. We do not have any scientific evidence for or against your assumption. My assumption (that there is life after death) has a great deal of evidence, but no scientific proof.

There is nothing wrong with assumptions unless they are disproved. The difference between Christians and Atheists has nothing to do with science and everything to do with assumptions.

Your assumption (that there is not life after death) consists solely of the belief that the lack of scientific evidence proves your point.

You are way out on the end of that branch of scientific philosophy, Thekure. I am not a follower of Karl Popper's hypothetico-deductive method (though his arguments are interesting). I suspect that the points are rather more germane in languages other than English. In any case, your argument doesn't apply to your original statement about default assumptions. To assume nothing exists after death IS an assumption.

Exactly right. I don't think we're that far apart. It's just that so far, no one has figured out a testable hypothesis concerning what, if anything happens after death. I make certain assumptions based on my beliefs. You make another assumption based on your beliefs. I hope the day will come when I am proved right, but so far, no one has come up with a testable hypothesis.

The questions asks what do you believe, not what can you prove. None of these answers can be proven.
