Ethnic and religious fanaticism.

This is a good question Sheep. I even think the answers are fairly good.

Thank you!

Lack of access. To control over others, political voice, legal recourse, economic fairness, what have you. A perceived lack of access.

Good question, I can't vote though cos I can't decide...how about "All of the above". The first three make people more susceptible to the supposed benefits offered by the religious fanatics...dern, this ones a thinker...

I'm drawing a blank... can you give me an example of when poverty has bred terrorism?

Well, looking at things in very broad strokes...the British in Ireland in centuries past. They take all the good land, they demand big taxes, people are pitched into heinous poverty...a hotbed where unrest and rebellion ferments - leading to the Troubles and many deaths. What about the Palestinian refugees, do you think they'd be as willing to involve themselves in violence if they lived in the lap of luxury? The leaders of these terrorist groups probably don't live in poverty, but they recruit "armies", and the most willing to join those armies are people who feel they can get something better out of it - so the poor, the hungry, the oppressed - misguided yes, but to them it seems a way out. To me, the religious side of it is more of a tool used to recruit and then as an excuse rather than the real reason. As to why the leaders of the terrorist groups might want to do it...guess maybe they have screws loose.

I agree with you. It's the lack of opportunities that leads to anger. The religious fanaticism comes when they are told that WE are the reason they have no hope, and then are fed hope of things being better when they reach the other side. If they die while killing their 'oppressors' - they get their 72 virgin brides.

And what do the terrorist group leaders get out of it? A position of power, authority and the deep sense of pride you have in your ability to accomplish being able to twist a fellow human being completely into your control. They're starting with the little, lost ignorant souls ... and they're working their way towards controlling Britain, Canada and the USA.

I think perhaps they are winning, I read somewhere a guy was told he couldn't fly in an Optimus Prime tshirt, cos OP was carrying a weapon....don't those security guys realise he's a good guy?

Yep - they're winning. Dunno what we're going to do about it, but I want my country back.

Me too...:-(

I have to agree with dauguy, that is my choice too..

I think religious fanatacism may help breed terrorism, but that lack of access to political process and economic opportunity in other countries may breed religious fanatacism. (Religious fanatacism being, except in the case of the USA, found in only the poorest countries in the world.) I just don't think that religious fanantism is the primary reason.

It's not OUR fault that they don't do what we tell them to do!

Pure unadulterated hate.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Can different terrorists have different motives? Secular politics (economy/civil liberties) and wealthy religions of violence have motivated mass killings entirely divorced from one another. The difference today seems to be that violent religions are more wanton (terrorist), while political violence seems more strategic. So, I chose Religious Fanaticism.
