Our western culture is based on things like christianity, humanism and democracy, but none of those particularly explain a sex-obsession.
Therefore I wonder if it is so much our western culture or our capitalist system. Because all advertizers, film makers, TV programs etc know that "sex sells".
Eastern culture is not obsessed with sex? Karma Sutra? Some of the most populous countries in the world? Sex slavery and prostitution in Bangkok is known all over the world. Why would you think its JUST western culture??
