That's what she called it. Personally, I think that when you are woken up being beaten with the buckle end of a belt, spanking might not be the right word.
I guess it depends on the country. In the US it is not illegal, BUT there is a fine line between abuse and spanking so most people try to stay away from it I suppose.
I guess it depends on who your neighbors are and how powerful CPS is in your community. If TV movies are any clue, in some communities CPS sounds like some kind of Gestapo organization (if you believe what you see on TV).
I think there is a big difference between a swat on the behind to get their attention and a punch or beating. I have no problem with the former, and a lot with the latter.
When I was a kid everybody got spanked. So what?

When I was a child I was spanked exactly once. It's a long story why it happened... Guess it was the tip of an iceberg for my mom :)
