During the course of many lawsuits at some point either before or during a trial one side will often volunteer to pay to settle. Sometimes they think they are in the right, but they think average IQ (100) jury members will be incapable of correctly analyzing the unavailable facts and declare a guilty verdict because they are more motivated by emotions and what they want to believe rather than the truth. Accordingly, even if Michael is innocent, I think he did the smartest thing possible by agreeing to settle.

You don't pay someone millions of dollars to go away *after* the news is out unless you molested them.
