Interestingly enough, we were told at work that it was not a required day to work, but if you didn't work you were not eligible for your 40 hour/5 day work week bonus.
When I drove to work, the traffic was roughly 1/3 of what it normally is. I think a lot of employers have taken to using that philosophy for all religious holidays. Makes sense, and a good idea.
