What is the law there? I assume from 'zero-tolerance' that no one can own a gun. Was the man in the process of calling the police to report the illegal weapon when he was busted? Or did he try equivalent of throwing his drugs on the floor and declaring"They aren't mine". Which BTW, would still get you convicted of possession--in THIS country.

He found on the ground near his house, took it to police station to turn it in and was arrested when he did so.

Then they are idiots to have prosecuted him. What do they want, guns lying around on public lands? Which would have been the smart thing for this guy to have done, picked it up with a hanky or a pencil in the barrel and thrown it in the middle of the street. Or worse, thrown it in the yard of someone he didn't like.

However, I bet that if it had been drugs and not a gun, the reaction would have been "Oh, sure, he SAYS it's not his, but probably thought he was going to be busted so he PRETENDED they weren't."

The real issue, as you correctly point out, has nothing to do with guns and everything to do with justice.

It would be helpful if you posted the details dr1024

Thanks. And for this you were voted down?

Free people do not need a gun for self defence.

Sounds like the guy who says, "safe drivers don't need seat belts."

Sorry , got to disagree with that one. Wasn't it N\the Soviets who concluded that an invasion of the US wasn't feasible because the populace was armed?

If other people wish to harm us, are we truly free?

It is a bad idea to define one's self by the actions of others. Making one's identity dependent on factors over which one has, and will NEVER have, control, is a bad idea.

At some time or another, each of us will the decision of another to harm us. Does that mean we will never be free?

That makes no sense. You are basically saying you don't need guns to be free; evil person please come take us prisoner and make us slaves, I can't defend my self or my loved ones.

You would also be saying that virtual no living animal in the world at any time was free because some other animal always wished to harm them and eat them.

Don't know if the Soviets concluded that as well or not (I think they did), but the Japanese definitely did.

"never invade the United States. We would find a rifle behind every blade of grass." Isoroku Yamamoto

Without knowing all the circumstances one cannot say.

If this statement is the truth no justice whatsoever was done.

Justice will be done the next time someone finds a gun and shoots someone else. This must be what they are hoping to happen next time. Clearly they lack the wisdom of Solomon.

Of course if the man was lying he deserved to get punished.
