You sure there isn't?

Yup.

It's called ►"disorderly conduct"◄

Think those charges were dropped for a reason

Many times charges are routinely dropped, after a cooling off period! It's not uncommon!!!

He cooled off and stopped yelling!

Yeah, that's like yelling at someone who can frame you, beat you, or shoot you 55 times because they thought your wallet was a gun.

Yep, a white man yelling in his own home would be just fine. What you see is mainly in what you look for. Black man = arrest. White man = hey, calm down.

You are a race baiter, pure and simple. Shame on you.

I don't think so. I just think he's being honest. And even though we have a black president I think there are still some Americans who believe black people should never have been freed. How sick is that!?????

Probably why Obama needs so much more security. People on these types of sites have come right out and threatened him. Don't forget the KKK isn't just in the south anymore. 17th century mentality.

I have not personally met one (Americans who believe black people should never have been freed.) in over 40 years. It seems to be pretty rare, certainly not a major number of Americans that just "happen" to disagree with his politics.

No, he's race-baiting.

How do you know that?

Ah, the delights of the police state.

Indeed! :(

He was on his own property the entire time. Whatever happened to the maxim, a man's home is his castle?

The cop was just being a prick.

I also saw pic of a black cop there too.

Then they were both being pricks. :)

41 times, don't you ever listen to the radio? [American Skin (41 Shots), Bruce Springsteen.

Good catch B^)

Thanks! :)

Because you pay their salary? And they are abusing the privilege?

NOt in a police state, they aren't.

It is stupid to do that but there is no law against yelling . That is the point. why do you think he was not charged?

Exactly. Which just goes to show the cop was abusing his power and/or just being a prick.

There are laws against creating a disturbance, in your own home, work, the mall, anywhere. If you do it to incite! or endanger! whatever!

The police was satisfied that it was the owner entering his own home, attempting to leave Gates followed him and ►continued◄ to berate the cop, (it was stated)the other cops and the neighbors were beginning to show concern about Gates behavior, as Gates still continued with his tirade the Sargent decided at that time he had to arrest Gate for disorderly conduct.

I think the cop showed a lot of restraint in not rearranging his face, I know I would have wanted to. Gates did this with an ►agenda◄ in mind! I think Gates might be the racist in this pair!

Sadly the cops get abused all the time, it is part of their job. Not something I approve off, but Crowley is an experienced officer and should be able to deal with that. I can also understand the reaction of Gates, he believes he is being discriminated against and regardless of this is true or not that is how he perceives this. I also understand that the woman who called the police mistook the two large black men with backpacks entering the home, when one of them using his shoulder to push open the jammed door, for robbers. I might have done the same as that woman myself.

Gates was already inside his home by the time Crowley arrived and feels the police was invading his home. He also feels that because he is black, that the suspected robbery was reported, he questions that if a white man had done the same would the police have been called. If Crowley just walked away, after verifying that Gates was not a burglar, there would have been no disorderly conduct. Instead he invited Gates to come outside and assuming Gates was yelling, Crowley would have staged the public disturbance he arrested Gates for.

The reason that at least 7 people looked on is no surprise there must have been at least 3 police cars there. (Cambridge and Harvard police officers and his own car) And they were there before the they came outside.

Rightly or wrongly, people of color feel they are being discriminated against, they think about this all the time, so when this kind of thing happens to them, they blow up. Gates had a respiratory infection (and a doctors report to that effect) so he might not have been able to yell like Crowley claimed.

I read both the police report and Gates account, but I will wait for final judgment on who said what when I hear from others witnesses , as for now I am leaning to "false arrest"

Obama was asked by the press about the incident and he would have been smart to reserve comment on this until all the facts are clear.

Just watched the segment where Obama made a comment, I thought with the information available Obama was correct in saying that the police department acted stupidly. He was also correct that racial profiling still happens, but had no indication that that was the case in this situation. The police union also said that racial profiling still happens, (but that this was definitely not the case in this incident) during their press conference.

Whenever I see a cop I know it could cost me money. Tickets, disorderly conduct, or whatever they want to charge you with. I am not afraid of the police, but I don't want to contribute to their retirement either.

When a SWAT team gets sent to the wrong arrest and kill a man they wake up in the middle of the night just because he brought a flashlight to help him see what was going on, you honestly believe they should not be charged with manslaughter and not lose their jobs?

That's what happened in a neighboring township about 15 years ago. The cops did an internal review and the killers even got paid for the time they were off from work. Their opinion? So sad, too bad. Shit happens.

Duh... this city is almost as bad as Chicago. Cops get away with murder... literally.

I wonder if the president will get involved when an error occurs involving someone who is Caucasian?

Are you saying the President might be a racist himself?

I would certainly hope not, but am curious to see how he reacts to similar mistakes with all races. Will every false arrest be brought to the attention of the President of the United States, be commented upon and require a "beer summit" at the White House, or only those who are of scholarly stature?

Remember his words... there is no Black America and there is no White America. There is just the United States of America. Accordingly, following this line of reasoning, he would act exactly the same no matter what race was getting butt-fugged.

Time will tell, I suppose. He will be very busy hosting "beer summits" at the White House during his time there.

Beer summit, eh? I *like* that phrase. You ought to submit it to the Urban Dictionary. :-)

This is how the article starts - quote: "absurdist, typically stilted police language of Sergeant James"

Now, might you not think this link is a little ►bias◄. This link is just useless crap!!!!!!!!

Like you are never guilty of bias?

Of course he is. I am too, but this was presented without comment. I would assume that it is information that speaks for itself. It wasn't. It was a comment, but not presented that way. ncatt simply corrected intinvage's oversight.
