There is abundant energy all around us. For example the sun drops enough energy to power the world for a year every 40 mins. Ask a Question

yeah. even more than that. now, if the government built an "electricity superhighway" that anybody could get onto, then imagine. i could purchase 100 acres in the middle of the desert and set up my own solar power plant, then hook up and be making money right away.

but even if somebody merely developed solar energy collecting asphalt, imagine what would happen if the surface of all streets, parking lots, sidewalks, etc, could collect energy?

there's a building going up in dubai that collects 3 times more energy than it needs (see my previous questions to see a link)... once we make the switch, and power costs less, and people are less sick, and the climate starts to calm down a little, we'll wonder why we allowed the huge interests to hold us back so long.

They recently started the process of building a windfarm off the coast here. The amount of opposition it faced was ridiculous and all because it might spoil the view! I think it has taken about 8 years to finally get going. It will generate enough electricity to power 60,000 homes, a hefty chunk of the local area. People who oppose these things on such flimsy grounds are making a switchover to other sources very difficult.

They are doing the same crap here. Nimbys!

Good word for em!

They are arguing that we should conserve energy and I think they are right, as that would reduce the total cost of solar and wind as well. People do not listen to them so they block projects like this, hoping that it will force the debate. Me I want to see 100% renewable energy, including wind farms

On a side note we do not need solar farms, those pannels are better on the roofs of our homes

its not an opinion that 1. there is abundant energy around us. and 2. the sun drops enough energy to completely take care of all all our annual energy needs, including transportation too, in 40 minutes, onto the planet.

that's a scientific fact.

i'm not saying chop down all the trees and put up solar collectors, but lets be reasonable. there's solar paint now, you could put on your car or house, to turn it into a solar collector...

the sun shines approximately 3500 watts per square meter, on the average, onto the planet.

that means if you had efficient solar collecting roofing shingles, efficient solar collecting drapes, solar collecting glass on your house and car, solar energy collecting asphalt roads, driveways, parking lots, we'd find such a glut of energy, that the cost per kilowatt would just go down to practically $0 just like with computation and communication via the internet. who wouldn't want that? who is biased if they want that? to me there are two groups. 1. the board members of exxon, 2. the saudi prince. and 3. all of the rest of us. so yes. i guess i'm biased against the exxon boardroom

watch al gore's speech from nyu on electranet.com he is well aware of that "investment hump" that stands in the way of innovating with any of this technology. he has some solutions.
