The UN has adopted a resolution calling upon all UN nations to adopt legislation banning the "defamation" of religion. Good?

1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
3. To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion; and
4. To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends."
It is their business because that is the kind of problem the United Nations was created to deal with. It is our problem because, as co-authors and signatories to the Charter, we have a moral obligation to abide by it. Of course, the fact that the Big Five can unilaterally veto any resolution or action, and the fact that America routinely violates international law whenever it pleases (much like other Big 5 members) has meant that the U.N. has been ineffective since its inception.

The UN is a joke.
I fail to see how it is any of the UN's business.
From the Untied Nations Charter:
"Article 1
The Purposes of the United Nations are:
1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;

Like the man said earlier, the UN is a joke, and an expensive one at that.
It's called free speech.
Until the UN finds a way to revoke the constitution of the US, they're a bunch of windbags, at least on this subject.
Me too. I'm all abouts the freedoms of speeches.
Perhaps in the US that might be true. But worldwide these sorts of laws are appearing on the books more and more.
Time for genuinly democratic states to leave the increasingly Islamic dominated, corrupt and wasteful UN and form their own organisation.
I agree
