The last time my party had a candidate become President of the US, I thought the job he did was: Ask a Question

C'mon, I can't be the only person out there who voted like a Dem who wasn't too fond of Clinton...and for the record, I don't care HOW many bj's he got.

lol - I still haven't forgiven him for NAFTA.

Bless you!

I have to agree with most of the points in this article. About the only thing he did I appreciated was leaving the government with a surplus at the end of his final term.

Don't believe the propaganda. Right wing or left wing - but ESPECIALLY not right wing propaganda. (lol) The article did hit a few valid points, but ANYone who would link Ann Coulter from their website isn't trustworthy. (lol) That's like a liberal linking Ralph Nader.

Don't get me wrong but wasn't the economy in better shape when Clinton was president?

I think it was, but the seeds of destruction were already there. Don't forget the dot-com bubble, and that Enron was in full swing towards the end of his term. One of the things big business was quoted as liking Bill for was that he was very amenable to giving them what they wanted.

He never really changed the trajectory of the country the way Reagan did, as was stated in the above article. He signed NAFTA, which led to some of the labor problems the country faces now, and had a poor record on ecology. They never got universal health care off the ground, and the "don't ask don't tell" verdict for gays in the military pleased no one and changed virtually nothing.

As I stated in my commentary to Jonmarc, about the only thing he did was to leave a surplus at the end of his final term...I wonder though, even back then, if they had already left Social Security an empty husk full of IOU's.

I can agree. I normally vote Libertarian and disagree with both major parties. I occasionally do vote Democratic when elections are close. I registered as a Democrat this year to vote for Obama in the primary. Why? In 1992, I voted for Clinton and feel let down. He made a whole lot of bad decisions, and I believe she would, too.

My main point of disagreement with prior posts is that I wouldn't give Clinton much credit for a projected surplus that never actually happened. This blogger cites the Treasury Department stats:

http://www.letxa.com/articles/16

In my estimation as a fiscal conservative, the economy was good under most of Clinton's watch, but not necessarily as a result of his efforts. The Clinton-supported Gore Bill did prime the Dot Com pump, but also helped create the bubble.

Then, the Repubs took Congress in 94, and Newt Gingrich was the de facto economist-in-chief, with a few minor concessions to Clinton after dramatic government shut-downs and vetos.

A budget surplus is usually synonymous with "overtaxation". Using extra revenues to reduce the national debt held overseas might have been worth a bit of overtaxation. But, overtaxation is usually bad for any capitalist economy; money that could be flowing through the economy isn't.

Furthermore, I am not convinced a surplus would have helped pay down the debt. Incumbents in both parties normally try to spend as much money as they can find on pork-barrel projects to buy votes. Beyond the same tired rhetoric both major parties always spew, no assurances ever convinced me that Washington would have treated the surplus any differently.

Nice link, thanks!

How are non-us citizens expected to take part in a poll like this?

Let's try to keep the questions revelant to the worlds not a specific country folks!

I would simply comment on the political structure of your country, and let us know what you think is going on there.

The fact that I can only post 4 answers limited my ability to include other countries. I therefore posted the answer group I was most interested in. Why not try posting a more inclusive question? I'd love to see the responses you got as well!
