Some jobs you go into knowing there won't be much public applauding going on. Spys are one, and maids are another example. Unfortunately, whereas both provide a service that is thought of as honorable, for various reasons they may never be acknowledged. It isn't a coincidence, both occupations have high levels of burn out or apathy. Not sure that evil has anything to do with it. Hitler was evil, and he got alot of praise almost up to the time he croaked. Insincere praise yes, but praise even so.
For reason. Spies are not nice people, and they do evil things.
