The govt put another couple billion in the program. I recently sold my 12 year old van to my neighbor. It did need some work and had 145,000 miles on it. Now I almost wish I had kept it. Only drawback, we don't need another new car. My car is 10 months old, and my husbands is only 2 years old. Almost forgot to answer the question. The auto industry is trying to improve and work with the stimulus. The banks and the mortgage companies aren't doing enough.

It also proves that the Government can not even efficiently run this little program, and people want to trust them with running the country's health care system.
You must listen to totally other news than I do, because I really do not understand what you are complaining about. The truth is that this program was so overwelmingly successful the car dealers had problems to follow up with the necessary paper work. The program was completed within a week and you see that as a negative? How is that possible or do you want to misunderstand on purpose?

It certainly better than direct handout to the auto company, as it directly keeps the manufacturing end going.
Sadly, even the American cars available through the program are 90% made in Mexico, so it's not like Detroit UAW members get much of it.
The one thing it surely shows is that the government sorely underestimates the American appetite for "free" stuff. Health care is targeted to be "free"? Look out, scout!!
