Some states are considering raising the minimum driving age. Do you think this is fair? Ask a Question

Sure. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

agree.

I'm not in favor of it; in fact as long as a parent or legal guardian is in the car supervising, I'm for lowering it. The more controlled/supervised driving experience that teens can get prior to being turned loose, the better. Raising it to 18 could inadvertanly have a negative affect.

But as long as it isn't raised over 18 I feel it is fair.

yes, I think 18 is much better... also minimum drinking age should come down, so kids know how dangerous it is to drink, before they are even allowed to drive!

How does lowering the drinking age to 18 teach kids how dangerous it is to drink?

I have no objection to the age 18 as I believe if you are old enough to serve in military, you should be old enough to drink.

you would have to lower the drinking age to 17 or 16... lemme explain. I'm from Germany, you are allowed to drink beer (no hard liquor) at the age of 16. Hard liquor is later. This way though most Teenagers know how alcohol affects you before you ever sit behind the wheel. I find in the US and in Canada, kids are driving first and then drinking and all of the sudden you have crazy drinking and driving accidents

My sons were drinking at 14 regularly. I didn't know this, never suspected they were party people. Only one had a DWI at 21.

but again we are playing with odds here, how often did they drink and drive and not get caught, even just being caught once means that they must have been driving many times DWI. I don't even care about fines, shall they get all the fines they want, I care about the harm caused to other people. Have you heard of Jacqui? http://www.helpjacqui.com/

How can you even just brush that under a table as a mother?

I'M NOT..........I don't think raising the driveing age will help....you CAN'T DRINK AND DRIVE !! Any amount.

I don't think starting to drink earlier will solve anything... I mean I'm sure like 70% start drinking before they legally can anyway. And as for drunk driving... I think more adults have problems with that. Younger people tend to party harder, but generally designate drivers. I'm sure it varies from place to place, but thats how I see it in my city.

Who cares if it's fair as long as the 40,000 killed in auto accidents statistic is lowered and it would be.

it wouldn't, the bulk of driving accidents happen after 21. In any case less experience would mean an increase of accidents. Adults are irresponsible too...
