That's really too bad that you feel this way. After all, you did ask this question.
Maybe someday you will look back on this time in your life and realize that texting your friends really wasn't that important. Hopefully you will realize this before you get turned down from a good university or denied a job that could become your career.
During class is not the time to text, it is a time to learn. Having friends has nothing to do with it. Cell phones should not even be allowed in the class room. I suggest that you get rid of the cell phone, pay attention in class and get an education,,,,you are going to need it with an attitude like that.

evan and devan a match made in heaven till were 107 and our daughters 11. but i wanted a boy, and he would kevin. and he would be 7. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ?
i dont think texting should be allowed in class unless given permission by the teacher and they should be allowed in lunch and during passing period. you get in trouble even if you want to take a picture of something and its with your phone, not a camera. the rules and punishments are too strict for cell phone use in school. i got the same punishment as someone ditching school to go to mcdonalds and someone who was caught with cigarettes on them. its a lil ridiculous.
Your argument has some merit, but doesn't have anything to do with texting in class. Schools are always behind the curve technologically and socially, but texting is just the modern form of passing notes. Passing notes is still prohibited for the same reasons it always was. It promotes cheating and has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
Possibly, however texting in a structured lesson could be very useful. What about real-time information sharing with someone from a different country, or someone within your own country, but a different part of the country? Cell phones are like miniature computers, and can be used as such.
Well, I certainly think using a full size computer is the easiest, with a laptop next in line, but our young people are very comfortable with the smaller technology. As with any tool, there is an appropriate and inappropriate use. As an educator, I think that I need to use whatever tool-high tech/low tech-to teach and use that will benefit my students. Cell phones are not going away, and the growth in technology is not finished. I need to try to keep up! :)
I think that there could be valid times when texting could be used for educational reasons, similar to online discussion boards. But, as with all technology and non-technology, it should only be allowed when "on-task."
Not as dangerous as texting while driving, but equally annoying I would gather.
No way. It's not fair to the kids whose parents are too poor to buy them cell phones with unlimited texting.
How could texting in class possibly help anyone with their education? It could only be a distraction, or a form of cheating.
Agree totally. And I hadn't thought of the cheating aspect.
Of course. What are schools for? ;) Kidding!
Frankly, I am shocked you are even considering such crazyness and don't seem to understand the importance of education. How is that possible?

"I am sorry I have friends ...". You really seem to text far too much already that you don't see what is wrong here.

YOU CRAZY REAL TALK
Having friends has ZIP/ZERO to do with going to school to get an education. What do you think? It's a playground!!!?
I have lots of friends but why text when I can talk 20x faster than I can text? Can you spell duh?
Heck no.
That's the most rhetorical question I've ever heard.
All of the kids you know should be in school with you. Why would you need to text anyone? Do your school work.

As I mentioned in another question, my son's school provides netbooks as part of the textbook allotment. Wouldn't it be easier to use the netbook?
