Absolutly! When church and state mix, it causes a lot of problems for those involved. People need to remember that just because your religion says it, doesn't make it so, and not everybody has your beliefs.
Yes, and it goes both ways. The State needs to stay out of Church business, namely charity. All they should do is audit them to make sure that they are, in fact, non-profit.
I put my trust in reason. Religious people put theirs in 'faith'. I find that primitive and rather sad. If my distrust of all religion and longing for its passing makes me a 'bigot' in your eyes I will just have to live with it. Meanwhile have a nice day.
OK, I understand the sticking point. I put my trust in reason AND faith. I don't find them mutually exclusive, so I don't see any need to choose.
A large minority of religious people do not apply reason to faith and consequently say some idiotic things. Of course, a large minority of people fail to apply reason to science and get a lot of junk science in the process. The difference is, most don't blame the science, they blame the idiots. With religion, you are blaming faith, not the idiots that refuse to think.
Faith describes that beyond our knowing so is not testable by the regular rules of logic used in the hard sciences. It does have internal rules of logic and it's own language. (similar to physics) Even many religious people get the idea that, if it isn't reasonable , it must be religion. (Creation Science anyone?)
As to finding it primitive, I don't know what to say. I'm guessing it's because Christianity has always been a part of Swedish culture. When I was in China, Christianity was not taken very seriously by many because it was the "new" or "modern" religion. It's hard to reconcile that with your notion of primitive.

And if not, you tax the fuck out of them.

In an ideal world there will be no need for separation as churches will no longer exist.
amen
Idiotic comment
Thank you JW. To be called idiotic by a religious person indicated to me that I must be doing something right.
I never knew anyone that was proud ti be a bigot before.
I said that it was an idiotic comment because you didn't make any point. You just defined your own bigotry.

Not demanding an answer. Just thinking out loud.
Just to be clear I think all religions are primative, not just Christianity.
Absolutely, just like there should be a separation between Mosque and state!
Freedom is the distance between church and state.
