The problem is that most/nearly all asylum seekers trying to get in to Europe have concocted stories. Many are not even from the country they claim. In Sweden there are tens of thousands of Iraqis or 'Iraqis' all claiming that they would be tortured or murdered if they return home. There is no way of checking their stories so they are allowed to stay.
Judging from the stories that have come out of Iraq, those stories would most likely be true.
As long as we don't follow up on the ones we deny asylum to and end up sending back to the country of origin, we have no way of finding out if we have send a person to their death either. I guess we don't want to know either, it would be quite depressing finding out that the person they denied asylum to was telling the truth after all and so were in part responsible for their death.
So your view is much like that of the Swedish authorities. Grant asylum to anyone who asks for it: no questions asked. Imo a reipe for destroying a society.
No my view is that as a minimum you check up on those you deny asylum to and hold the governments of the countries you send the people back to accountable. But when in doubt you grant asylum.
You are both kind of right. Peterf is right. The thousands pouring in will change Sweden forever. They will lose a lot.
ask001 is right too. without letting in some of the liars, you condemn some of the others to die.
There is not any good answer. The attitude in North America and Sweden is to live and let live, but both countries have to put up with the consequences of Shia and Sunni Muslims fighting with one another and the US led coalition fighting with the Shias. (Shias venerate the Imams as saints. The Imams preached that all infidels must die, starting with Israel.) America preferred to stop them militarily. You guys preferred not to. Both "solutions" haven't solved the problem.
The UK has an even more serious problem. They took a military action AND let in so much other culture that they are in danger of losing their own.

The UK has always been generous to open their borders and the UK is small.
We have boat loads heading our way from Africa.
