Nope. Students are there to learn, to help their peers learn, and to listen to learn. We never had a "free study time".

we never really do either, but if we ever have time to get our algebra homework done in class or somthing like that

If they have recorded lectures and uploaded them to their iPods, certainly, yes. No, if they just want to listen to Avril or Nickelback and such.

They record lectures, you are kidding !!

That would be to productive. Load info of interest podcast on 2GB SD flash memory to listen to through my iPaq or computers. Works for me, but not a kid.

Ohhhh, I thought questioner meant MUSIC. Hit me with a stick DUH

The question only states "students," it doesn't mention kids at all.

I do a lot of my research on the medical campus. It's a pretty common thing for the students there to record lectures. The question doesn't specify grade school or graduate school. :-)

of course laa.. it's up to them to do what they want in ' free study time ' ... but not in study time or during lecture

"Free study time." What the heck is that! Is that what we used to call homework? Damn I'm gettin too old

Me too !! We were lucky to take handwritten notes !!

I think that if the iPods or MP3 players were only for study halls and free periods and there was some way of monitoring, then it would be okay. However, I think that if schools decided to allow iPods and MP3 players, some students may find a way to get one in and listen in - I'm sure they do it now already!
