Studies have shown that the taser is 5 times less lethal than common headache medication. I would personally rather be tasered than shot or hit in the head with a nightstick. BTW, police officers have to be trained by being tased themselves. Haven't heard of any of them dying from it.
Tasers have been proven to be safe and effective. The hype of the danger is vastly overblown. The cops have to deal with some very dangerous people and need this tool.

If I had the choice, I'd rather be Tased than shot by a cop.
