Not really. Would you rather cut down trees? Not everything gets recycled, you know. Eventually you'll have to cut them down to get more paper.

There are good arguments both for and against plastic bags. If you replace them with crocheted string bags, or other permanent bags, most of the arguments for plastic bags become redundant or meaningless.

String bags are only better in rich countries. Even if plastic bags are only used once, (not the case in my house) String bags cost more than 100 times as much and require hundreds of times as much water as plastic.

Obviously you don't crochet. Use cotton crochet thread, and get a dozen or so from a ball.

Not banned, but voluntarily phased out.

I have not banned them from my life, I just use them over and over (and over) again, until they more or less fall apart. I always keep a spare plastic bag in the front pocket of my rucksack (which I use for shopping).

If they banned them, what would I use to clean up after my dog?
