Always. No probation. Go to jail. Just like with any living thing, including other humans.

Depends.

If one is doing the hurting just for the sake/fun of causing pain, string them up.

If one is hunting to feed their family, then probably not (you can't be hunting the neighbors pets, animals in zoo, livestock, or endangered species).

The people in slaugterhouses likely get a pass as well.

PETA is a bunch of hypocritical idiots. They kill the vast majority of dogs and cats in there shelters. Apparently they feel they are better off dead than alive as someone's pet.

During all of 2008, PETA found homes for just seven pets. Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. (2,124 where euthanize) Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.

I have heard there is a strong link between people to harm animals and those who harm humans.

It seems they often "graduate" from animals to people when the anaimal abuse no longer gives them the thrill they seek.

Apart from the need to protect animals and punish the offenders, there seems a strong chance that violent crimes against humans could be reduced if these people were given sufficient punishment at an early stage.

There is a strong link between people that abuse or torture animals and those that abuse or torture humans. "Harm" is not the same.

We are overpopulated with deer where I live. I see deer that have hit moving cars every week this time of year. They certainly are harmed to death. But I place no blame on the driver for the deer's actions.

Only indirectly. The removal of all the top predators, combined with agricultural practices that make it easy for deer to forage, and the insanity of people who actually feed them! from their homes certainly contribute to having so many deer they are a highway hazard.

He's at least as responsible as a passenger is for whatever the driver ingests.

But if you don't feed them, can you not argue that you are harming them by withholding food and potentially letting them starve.

I have kin who hunt elk (Am. 'moose') and deer. I do not think they should be punished, particularly as they sometimes give me meat.

And, btw, are all the 'hell ya' voters vegetarians?

NO they are not vegetarions but I don't think you should get in trouble for hunting if you are using it for food but if you hunt just to hunt then yes you should get in trouble
