Yes, but only on base/post.
Only allowed to drink on the base/post? :/
Sure. If they are younger than the drinking age in the state (or country) where the base or post is located, just drink on the base or post. No conflict with state's rights (or other country's laws), as the base or post is federal property, and is immune from local laws.
(base=Air Force, post=Army/Marine Corps, don't know what they call Navy bases--bases, I guess)
BTW, I do believe that this is already the case--I was just told by an recently ex-Navy medic that she could drink on base from the age of 18 on she enlisted.
Didnt know that, thanks for the enlightening
my goodness, everyone should, not just military personnel
21 is a ridiculous legal drinking age
especially since by the age of 21 most people have been drinking for a good 5 years anyway
Agree.
You have to remember, we began as the religious nuts that were tossed out of England. We were the prison colony too, up until about 1775. Once the revolution began the export of prisoners ceased due to the revolution, executions shot up in England. Around 1780 they began shipping them to Australia.
Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah ...
We're the nation descended from the religious nuts. Of course the powers that be want to keep everyone from enjoying themselves. They're still trying to make prayer mandatory in school, too and teach our children that the big magic man made them out of earth. Wait. No, the BOYS were made out of the earth. The girls came as an after thought, and the magic man took a spare, useless part out of the boy and made a girl from it. And the girl is the reason that chickens squawk whenever they lay an egg. Because the magic man wanted to punish every female that every existed, or would ever exist, because she had PMS and was craving something sweet. And that's why you aren't allowed to drink until you're 21. The magic man might see and get mad and do something to EVERYbody because the kid under 21 was drinking.
Love it :)
Of course the Flying Spaghetti Monster is much more understanding :))
Hell ya! Striper factory and a beer volcano here I come!
Brilliant! :)
i agree.. as they say, "if you're old enough to die, you should be old enough to get drunk?!?(you get the point)"..:-)
Drinking may be hazardous to your health. Of course, bullets may be hazardous to your health too. This is a really hard question. Well, it's not a hard one for me. I guess it makes a good poll question because intelligent people who can really weigh the facts will surely come up with the right answer. I bet they will even tell us how they reasoned it out to reach the decision that alcohol is deadlier than bullets, or vice versa. I can hardly wait to see what people think on this crucial issue. :-)
If military personnel under 21 are not allowed to drink then they shouldn't be allowed to kill either. :-)
Drinking age should be 18. For everyone.
I was amazed that you can drive, vote, join up and kill folks, screw, get married and run your own business - but not enjoy the pleasure of a cool beer on a hot day???
I was brewing my own beer at 16 (thanks grandad:)
Struth this gets worse.. so if you marry before 21, you can't have a Stag Night (well not one worth having ) ... who ever heard fo a sober Groom on a Stag Night.
That is tragic!
In Austria, we can drink alcohol with 16 years ;) =)
In Portugal too. The problem is that some less scrupulous pub owners sell drinks to kids younger than that... There's even some places with "kids only" nights with free drink drinks all night long. :/
