Should Harley Davidson make a sport bike? Ask a Question

I could be mistaken, but didn't Harley produce a sports bike for a motorcycle race series in the States?

Okies...here it is:

They did make one, the VR1000, they made 50 of them for homologation purporses (pass US regulation) to be included in the AMA Superbike race. This was back in 94'. It was actually quite popular, but never mass produced. I'm looking into the value of Harley producing a luxury sportbike.

Quote from that article, "I'm impressed with how near to the mark the Harley is"

The problem for production was, they never put their "heart" in it, and only made 50, thus the $50,000 price tag. If this were mass produced, the price would be much more acceptable

I'm only somewhat familiar with this service, if you are at all interested in motorcycles/this poll, plus "add 1" so we can get more people asked.

Buell.

Yeah they bought the buell, but it's still not a Harley branded sport bike.

Thet would have a tough time of it as the Japanese and Italians have pretty much got it wrapped up.

The Harley name is pretty powerful in itself and would give them a strong boost, no doubt. I think the main drawback to a Harley sport bike is their engine design. but then again, that's the soul of the brand.

I don't care. Harley's look good, sound good and it feels good riding one but I'd rather have a Honda or a Yamaha. I want to be able to spend most of my time bonding with my bike on the road and not in the shop.

dont forget--you can get two metric bikes for the price of one Harley--and the have 600 layed off.

Nope. Didn't forget that. I've always had rice grinders and was always on the road. My two brothers that had Harleys, one just cruised on the week ends and the other cruised a lot when his wasn't broke for some reason or another. I used to razz them about the diff in costs.
