It's not fair when the person next to you has to share part of you're seat with you.
The question is implying a per pound weight [ex $1.57 a pound], like buying meat form the deli.
yes i understood that. But thanks for thinking you needed to clear it up.
This was just asked a week or so ago. http://www.ask500people.com/questions/should-obese-people-pay-more-for-airline-tickets
Apologies, I'm new around here, will check in future.
A search like "intitle:airline OR intitle:airlines" would give you the answer without having to look through multiple screens of old questions.
I don't think it made it to a global vote, but in the earlier poll the yays outweighed the nays by a small margin.
Sorry, what is a global vote? :)
Doesn't seem as close this time, 40/60 at the moment.
Hello travelrants !
Some here today have :-( faces.
Hi Aussie, why sad faces? :-(
Life's too short to be sad :)
I believe that the EOC has said this is a form of discrimination, and when you think about it, if 33% of the U.S. population, and more for some European countries, were not allowed to fly without additional fees, the airlines would fail. I guess bigger seats are the only solution.
The airlines will not of their own volition increase the width of seats to accommodate larger passengers.
Normal sized passengers do not want to pay more for larger seats that they do not need.
The solution is for the government to mandate seats large enough to accommodate all but the most freakishly obese passengers and then have arilines base the cost of each passengers ticket on the weight of the passenger on a scale at the ticket counter.
This would make all tickets more expensive, but all passengers would be comfortable, and heavier passengers would pay the cost of transporting their additional weight.
What could be fairer?
Those who object that they cannot afford to fly if the ticket prices increase will not be able to fly. It is not a constitutional right, after all.
It is just another way the airlines are bilking the few passengers they still have after increasing the prices of everything and doing away with many of the amenity they had. Not too long ago there were many flights that flew empty because they priced the people out of the air.
BEC44, they're still empty flights - they call them ghost flights, because their's not enough passengers but they need to still run them so that they do not loose the route.
It's not good for the environment.
Absolutely correct, it should be stopped!!
man...i miss flying on the airplane. when i was younger it was great, but now if i do go on a plane, its gonna be a crappy experience because i'm not super rich.
If you are going to charge by weight, then you should stand on a scale WITH YOUR LUGGAGE. This way they can better calculate a more accurate cost to transport your total weight. Some people are thin but pack 2 5olb bags where as a heavy person may only have a carry on, but their total transport weight would be the same.
This should also eliminate bag charges.
