It IS legal. The right question is "Should a religion be able to legislate its beliefs into law?" because this is a religious debate. Only people who believe in souls can make any kind of case for a first trimester abortion, or a morning-after pill, being murder. And not all relgions agree on when the soul enters the body.
The range of 'ensoulment' is from conception to naming ceremony/christening, BTW. And that has been known to occur as late as 5 years of age in cultures with high infant mortality rates.
It is completely a religion trying to make its beliefs law in a country where that is specifically prohibited.
I disagree with you that this is purely a religious motive. You can take the whole "soul" thing out of the discussion. At some point this child is allowed the protection of the law. The discussion is about what point that is.
A woman can get an abortion legally and the law turns a blind eye. However if someone causes harm to that women while she is pregnant they can be charged with murder if the "baby" doesn't survive. It seems that the law understand that this is a living human being at times but not at others, depending on who wants to kill the fetus.
"A woman can get an abortion legally and the law turns a blind eye."
Big problem with this sentence. It is factually incorrect and self-contradictory.
If someone can do something legally, the "law" is not turning a blind eye to it. The law is looking squarely at the act and saying, yes that's okay, go ahead. That's not a blind eye.
It should be discouraged and women should be educated to value their life as well as the life of their child - but it should be legal. It's a moral decision - not a legal one. Sometimes those are separate. For example - stealing might be immoral and illegal. However not praying might be considered immoral to some, but not illegal.
i think that if youve been blessed with the chance to have a child you should it be born!!!! there are many wemon who would love to be a mother to a child from there womb. However i do think abortion could be a chose for wemon who get raped!

Perfectly said.

It is only a moral decision to those who think that a fetus is a human being in exactly the same way that an adult is.
I couldn't agree more...

If medically imperative, yes.
