Political parties... Ask a Question

2 Answers

Political parties have evolved in every democracy that I know of. My conclusion is that they serve a purpose.

I think they serve a purpose too, but I think a two party system causes nothing but corruption. It is more effective to have many parties and proportional representation.

Although, too much PR and you get the Weimar Republic problem. The modern German democratic system, and those like it, are the best in the world in my opinion.

We have PR in Sweden. It gives power to the parties and takes it away from the voters. There is no such thing as a constituency member - and no way that voters can get rid of a member they don't like.
