I was just reading about that. They are looking to invest in a commercial taxi to orbit, and letting private industry take it over? Augustine said we weren't on a "sustainable path" to get to the moon by 2020. They want to invest instead in new technologies to improve spaceflight. It is a disappointment, but necessary, I think. (Except that taxi to orbit...that worries me, and I'm not sure why. I need to think about it, and read more about it.) Lets face it, we just don't have the money to spend out the ass on bad programs.
I think given the current economic situation it is probably a wise decision, though I do not know how much money exactly is involved nor what motivition is given.

I would be all for it if if private space flight was legal in the US. Once private space flight became realistic, the space program became obsolete.
