Nope. No mail since Friday; maybe not until next Friday, as there is another foot or more coming starting tomorrow. The garbage wasn't picked up. There is only one lane plowed out to the main road--about three miles away--and no room to pull off if you run into someone coming the other way because the snow is over three feet high. You can't use much water, as the septic tanks drain very sloooooooooooooooly when the leach field is covered. The water, never really pleasant because of the iron and sulfur content reeks beyond belief because the sulfur can't percolate up through the snow. If I don't get some good melting today and tomorrow morning, I will have to get up on the roof and shovel it clear to relieve the weight so it doesn't cave in. If I lose power, I have enough wood for about 4 days of continuous burning, then it had better be back on or the road clear enough to drive to a motel. No mail--did -I mention that?--meaning, for me, no coffee and a delay on filing my taxes that could require me to come up with the money for the two state income taxes instead of using my Fed refund. I will have to get up on the roof to clear the satellite dish again on Wednesday so I have Internet service, just like I did yesterday. And so on.

It's fun for about a day, then it sucks.

WOW, I see what you are saying--we didnt get mail for two days but it came today, my dish had to be cleaned off twice but it is ground level, no trouble with water, the power lines went down a couple places but not here. You have many more problems than I have, I will keep my fingers crossed for you--that is rough with no coffee, I bet that stinking water really does wonders for the coffee. It was 1 below this AM, you have that too?

We have been spares sub-zero temps, at least. I have been running the heat day and night at a comfortable temp, so I am getting a lot of melt on the roof, but heaven help me when the bill comes. I have 18 gallons of bottled water on hand, which I use for all drinking and cooking purposes. I always use bottled out here, the tap varies so much but is always undrinkable due to taste. SOmeday I will have a purifier system on line! I still have a few days worth of coffee, so I may luck out. TheSheep sent some on Thursday or Friday. (it's because I'm spoiled. There is no Trader Joe's less than a couple of hours away, and the coffee in the grocery stores sucks.)

I haven't lost power yet, but am saving the wood I have left in case this next storm does it. The longest I have ever in the past lost it was for about six hours, but these are unusual conditions. I have enough dry kindling in the house for about two fires, if I am careful, and enough wood in the house for about 24 hrs of continuous burning, plus another 2-3 days worth outside the door.I did see a firewood delivery up past me on Sunday, but don't know who it was. He had the usual honkin' big truck AND a snowplow attachment.

Just got an update on the weather. Looks like rain, sleet and 'wintry mix'--in other words lots of icing on the roads, damnit!

I guess that mix you speak of is going to stay just south of me. That is all you need, it is worse than snow in every way, if you could have a power failure, the weight of the ice on the wires is going to cause it..

We have a fresh 2 inches on top of the old foot so far and coming down pretty good with another 5 to 7 expected, just 90 miles south is supposed to turn to that mixture you mentioned.

I hope you get your coffee and for petes sake don't run out of wood--find someone to deliver you some before you have to have it.

By the way, why do you have two state income taxes?? Well, keep us informed how you are and I will have both hands worth of fingers crossed for you.

Right now it is snowing--with any luck, it will stay that way. I can't get onto the weather sites to find out.

My house is VERY well-insulated. If I pack the stove right, and run it cooler than shirtsleeve temps, I am fine for four to five days, and I we should be dug out by Friday--IF I lose power, which is not common. I live less than a mile as the crow flies for the electric substation for the area, so we get ours back pretty quick.

I have two state income taxes because I live in one state Mat through November, and a different one December through April

I cant get into the weather sites--I guess they are overwhelmed, with this weather. I have turned my thermostat back to 65 and put on a sweatshirt this year for the first time--I used to set around in shorts and t shirt in the winter but am trying to save a little on the gas bill. I have cleaned the driveway and walk and the snow is not going to be as bad as it was predicted I think--may be 5 new inches so far today and off and on now???

I should have thought about two states you live in but only could think about two for one--duhh.

I did get the accuweather long enough to see that you were getting snow but rain and mix should be later today or this evening----you will be OK!! My mail came at 9am--usually not till 4pm--have you got any yet?

Yes, i got mail today; maybe again on Thursday or Friday, who knows?

If you can't get onto any other weather site, you can usually get onto noaa.gov. And should, since our tax dollars pay for it! It is COMPLETELY commercial-free. loads really quickly (usually) and is so-so accurate--I find it better than accuweather.com for WV, the other way around for NY.

So far, I have another 4 inches or so: predictions call for another foot or more by this time tomorrow.

Here's the latest update at NOAA--and this is the third change since this morning:

Late Afternoon: Snow. High near 28. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow. Low around 25. East wind at 7 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow and areas of blowing snow before 3pm, then snow likely and areas of blowing snow after 3pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 26. Breezy, with a northwest wind 11 to 14 mph increasing to between 21 and 24 mph. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Blustery, with a northwest wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

It's the wind that worries me; just snow doesn't usually take me out, but wind--oh, yeah.

I don't usually run the heat as high at night, but I really want the house to stay warm, as it is easier to maintain the heat than to heat it up first. And, as I say, it is melting snow on the roof. There is probably only 18-20 inches up there, down from about 26-28 on Sunday.

you might want to delete that response with the NOAA link, it gives too much info about your location--and there is at least one really crazy motha on this site.

Good idea--what a shame...
