My class would like to know whether you think Brazil is rich or poor?

As with most nations, there are high-profile people who are rich, but most are not.

In Brasil the wealth is especially concentrated though.

I think the country has a lot of resources, however my Brazillian freinds tell me that the gap between rich and poor is very sharp, the rich are few but have a very good life, while the poor are very poor.

My answer would be somewhere inbetween.

My mother used to live in Brazil when she was a teenager - so I grew up to the tunes of samba and bossa nova. I agree that, as in many developping countries, money is very unevenly spread between the haves and the have-nots in Brazil, and when you take the average Brazilian he is quite poor. However when one looks at such things as culture and the spirit of the people I think Brazil is rich.

I remember when I was in high school (early 70s), our history teacher predicted that by the year 2000, Brazil would be the most powerful country on the planet. Oops.
