True... but when you've had to sit in the midst of a load of IT guys all plugged into headphones >all day long<, then the day goes by very very slowly.
Hate it. My last employer played only one station, same 100 song playlist day after day after year after year. And usually too loud, so it was hard to conduct business on the telephone. If it is low enough to talk over in a normal voice, and has enough variety to prevent insanity, fine.
I believe head phones in school is very smart when students are doing work, it's usually the stupid more traditional teachers that are all "NO HEADPHONES, AHHH!!". When i am listening to head phone i am completely focused on my work, it prevents me from talking, and keeps me entertained which keeps me focused.
Love it...with headphones.

How about if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Bring in your own iPod and headphones. :)
Only when they're playing my song. :-)
