Movie Theatres should have a Cell Phone transmission blocker to prevent people from texting/talking during movies.

Definitely not. If parents left a babysitter with their kids and the babysitter had an emergency the parents should be allowed to keep their cellphone on vibrate.
While I understand your concern, with the proper posted warning of such a cell phone signal blocker, all around I believe it would reduce, if not eliminate, those people who casually pull out their cell phones during a film.
To use cell phone in public places ignoring others' feeling is totally immoral and ridiculous. It should be banned in some certain sites as from my point of view. I'd like to recommend the gov. to install cell phone jammers in some certain public places.
But for now I just bought a cell phone jammer for my own use from http://www.jammerall.com/ , it helps really much when I feel fed up with the cell phone noise.
I don't like the idea of blocking cell phones because people do rely on them for emergencies.
As anoying as it is to have someone talking on a cell phone in a movie, I doubt very many people complain to management. Do You? Or do you just assume that someone else will do it? People these days do not want to get involved it seems. If management were made aware of a problem, then it should be up to them to get the person out of the theater. Maybe they should have a number people could text to during the movie for complaints.
Maybe one in how many million time a cell phone is used in a movie is a result of a TRUE emergency. Using a cell phone in a movie is very very rude and should be prevented somehow.
Lets say its 1 in Ten million...but that one call happens to be your baby sitter calling about your kid, cant get it touch with you but keeps calling you instead of 911 and your kid dies...I bet you would feel just a bit different.
My point was that when I go to the movies cell phones go off all the time and I have never seen one of these people leave the theater. They may go in the hall to talk, after they have disturbed everyone, but they come back in the theater,,, disturbing everyone again.

I understand your point, but I dont think your solution to the problem is acceptable. They are being rude, but there may be an occasional call that is very important. I think the better solution would be one, complain to the manager, repeatedly, until they do something about it or two, quit going to the movies at that theater if they wont do something about it.
One thing is for sure...if you don't complain to management then they don't recognize there is a problem.
Again, what about when cell phones did not exist? You must one that uses it in the theater. What do you think they did twenty years ago. Many people used pay phones. When I am in the theater I cut mine off. I am considerate to others. I paid my hard earned money to see a movie -- not to hear a phone ring and someone carry on a conversation or even worse text. I complain when it is a constant problem, but nothing is ever done.

Actually I am not one that uses a cell phone in a theater. One reason is because I don't go to movie theaters, I may average one movie a year. If it really bothers you, then why even go??
You keep asking the question what about before cell phones...what did people do....well, as best as I can remember people brought their kids with them and instead of a cell phone ringing you had babies crying.
Well, that is good to hear. If there are people that would bring kids in the past they should teach them to be respectful of others. I firmly believe in not bringing babies to theaters. People know that they are eventually going to cry. This is totally inconsiderate to others. I am talking about people bringing babies and kids into R rated movies.
Maybe they did. Over the course of the last century I'd bet some kids died while their parents were at a movie theater. Maybe a phone call would have saved the day, especially so if the kid was asthmatic and the babysitter couldn't find the kid's inhaler.
I agree. I also remember when people did not need a cell phone because they were not invented. What would you do in the past or if cell phones were not even invented? The truth is I have seen it more and more in people of the younger generation. They do not care about others and have no sense of manners and decency that others have. The people that are older have the decency to cut off the phone. Really my thinking is if you cannot leave you phone off for the length of the movie, then you do not need to be in there. You are just annoying everyone else. The last movie I went to the couple next to me, both teenagers, got a call or text every 5 to 10 minutes during a more than two hour movie. If you feel like you can't be without your cell phone while the movie is on, then you need to stay home.

Then you are a jerk and prove so if you respond to this while you are in the theater. Grow up and cut it off while you are in the movie. You are not that important. If you need to use your phone during a movie, then obviously, you do not need to be in the movie. Have some consideration for others, grow up, and cut it off!!!

I have never heard a cell phone ring in the local theater...

There are safety considerations, as Chip noted--and the old saw about the neurosurgeon who is needed for emergency surgery.
Perhaps if management made it a point to throw out anyone who used their cell phone for non-emergency purposes during a film?
This is what they make beepers for.
Hmmm.. good point. I used to have one.. but so long ago I had forgotten about it.

I have told them plenty of times, but nothing is ever done. They walk into the theater, but do not say anything to the people.
If they did, they would be breaking USA federal law. Hob 'bout a gadget that forces all cell phones into vibrate mode?

How did we deal with this before cell phones??? Did kids die because we didn't have a phone with us??

That would be stupid...occasionally I am calling someone, that I am in the cinema now ^^
