Please don't ask the same question 3 times worded differently.
But, if the guilt of the tortured is assured, then yes.
Sometimes you have to reword a question to get the thoughts going. It also would matter as to what members of my family that were involved

Torture simply makes the tortured person say whatever he/she thinks their torturers want to hear. Consider John McCain who named the starting lineup, defensive line of the Green Bay Packers as his squadron mates.
And yes, you are lowering yourself to their level... we are Americans. We are supposed to be better than they are, remember?
I do not think the "torture does not work" argument holds water. In WWII the Gestapo used torture very effectively to roll up resistance networks in occupied Europe. Those captured were expected to hold out for 24 hrs - at best.
I didn't say that torture doesn't get you information... I said that torture does not get you accurate information. It gets you anything the person being tortured thinks you want to hear.
It did get the Gestapo accurate information, sadly.
It is obvious that you have never had to do anything more than shop at the malls and eat yourself silly. Must be nice to live with your head someplace else other than on top of your shoulders !
Okay, I understand. If you have no logical argument, just call people names. My how discerning, how insightful, how erudite... I bow before your clearly superior intellect.
Now I am still waiting for you to tell me what mall you shop at
I don't shop at the mall. Sorry. I can't remember the last time I was at a mall, but it was likely Ala Moana Center. Of course it's unlikely there is any correlation whatsoever between shopping at malls and our obligation to be morally superior to people who torture, but if you have some empirical evidence that there is, I'm all ears.
It's strange how the question pertains to "your family's lives" but you chose not to respond about them. How sad. Do you consider YOUR country more important than YOUR family?
How do you know "they" started it, we know the USA has tortured people (and still are), maybe "they" are claiming the USA started it?
Torture might work in some cases, but it does bring more hate towards the person doing the torturing and so the cycle of hatred continues.
You are no different then those terrorists, the only difference is the location you were born.
It is obvious that you do not know what you are talking about. Do they let you let out of the closet at least once a month ?
And precisely why is it "obvious," other than you saying so. While your ability to craft such clever insults makes it clear that you are our intellectual superior... why not explain to us mere mortals what is not so "obvious" to us?
I would explain to what is obvious but I forgot what was obvious. My superior intelligence is failing me. Got to have another refreshment
Failure to answer the question noted.
Is there really an ethical equivalence between terrorists murdering at random and security services using torture in an attempt to stop them? I do not think so.

You must not watch 24. There is no 2nd chance to get the information, because the bomb is going to go off. ;o)
There are no boundaries when it comes to family.
Torture doesn't necessarily get good info from the subject being tortured but it is a great motivator for the next guy up, provided you let them see what the first guy goes through.
Chances are number two will give you more actionable info.
